A biologist with Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs places desert tortoises into a carrying case on a helicopter during the Desert Tortoise translocation, April 10, 2017, which was facilitated by the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif. The translocation, in accordance with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service-signed Biological Opinion, serves as a negotiated mitigation to support a congressionally mandated land expansion which, will afford the Combat Center the ability to conduct Large Scale Exercise training of a Marine Expeditionary Brigade-level force.
