Twentynine Palms -- he Combat Center’s Officer’s Spouse’s Club gave out more than $55,000 dollars in grants and scholarships to their 2017 recipients at the home of Combat Center Commanding General, Brig. Gen. William F. Mullen III, May 4, 2017.

Members of OSC awarded $22,000 in grants to local community organizations and $36,000 in scholarships to 18 recipients. Funds were raised this past year, generated by many different fundraising events coordinated by OSC.

“This year we raised about $16,000 at the gala [at Smith Ranch Hall in February],” said Cherie Lewis, club president, OSC 29 Palms. “The money raised was supplemented by grant money from organizations such as American Friends of Our Armed Forces.”

In addition to receiving monetary support from AFAF, a volunteer organization aimed at supporting service members, OSC raised money for the scholarships and grants via events held throughout the year and auctions conducted at their annual gala.

“We like to support organizations that support military families,” Lewis added.

Organizations that received the grants were made eligible through the work they do to support Combat Center families. Local organizations, to include the city of Twentynine Palms, Little School of the Desert, Joshua Tree National Park and Theatre 29 received grants from the club, strengthening the mutually beneficial bond shared between the installation and the community that supports it.
