Lance Cpl. Joseph Michael Peregrina, rifleman with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, kisses his girlfriend Brianna Santiago goodbye before leaving the Combat Center’s Unit Marshalling Area for deployment to Iraq Aug. 27. Marines and sailors from 3/7 departed the Combat Center Aug. 26 and 27 on a seven-month deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. More than 1,000 Marines and sailors left the Unit Marshalling Area in the early and mid-morning hours of both days to the waves and tears of their families and loved ones.::r::::n::
