JOHNSON VALLEY REOPENS TO PUBLIC FOLLOWING MARINE CORPS TRAINING

27 Aug 2026

Effective today, Aug. 27, 2026, the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area (JVSUA) has reopened to the public following the successful completion of Marine Corps training exercises. The land has been thoroughly cleared and returned to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for public recreation.

The Marine Corps greatly appreciates the community’s support during this closure. Military training in Johnson Valley is a vital component in maintaining national defense by providing progressive, service-level training that best prepares Marines for combat operations worldwide.

To assist the public with long-range planning, future scheduled temporary closures for 2027 are below:

  • Feb. 12 – 24, 2027

  • Aug. 13 – 26, 2027

For more information, including a downloadable map of the area and other updates, the public is encouraged to visit the official Johnson Valley website at www.29palms.marines.mil/johnsonvalley/.
