Commanding General, Brig. Gen. William F. Mullen III, observes as Peter Praschag, a biologist assisting with the translocation, swabs inside the mouth of a desert tortoise as part of a health assessment, April 12, 2017, during the desert tortoise translocation aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif. The translocation, in accordance with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service-signed Biological Opinion, serves as a negotiated mitigation to support the mandated land expansion which will afford the Combat Center the ability to conduct Large Scale Exercise training featuring up to a Marine Expeditionary Brigade-level force.
