JOHNSON VALLEY SHARED USE AREA IS NOW TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR MILITARY TRAINING
14 Aug 2025

The Johnson Valley Shared Use Area is now closed. This temporarily closure will be in effect through August 25, 2025. During this time, the area will be used to conduct Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Warfighting Exercise, a comprehensive force-on-force exercise that challenges MAGTF units to be innovative and adaptive by simulating conflict against a peer adversary. This closure is essential to ensure the safety of both military personnel and the public.

The Marine Corps will also temporarily close the area on the following dates in 2026:
• February 12–26, 2026
• August 13–27, 2026

Temporary closure periods include time to inspect the land for safety before reopening to the public. The adjacent Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area remains open during temporary closures of the Shared Use Area.

Be aware, live-fire training is conducted year-round at the Combat Center. Recreationists are urged to respect base boundaries and avoid trespassing. Trespassing is strictly prohibited and poses significant safety risks due to ongoing live-fire training.

For the latest information, including a map of the affected area details on receiving closure updates via email or text message, please visit: www.29palms.marines.mil/johnsonvalley/.
