JOHNSON VALLEY SHARED USE AREA CLOSURE DATES FOR 2026
14 Nov 2025

As previously announced, the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area will be temporarily closed to the public from Feb. 12-26, 2026, to facilitate critical Marine Corps service-level training. This closure is essential to ensure the safety of both military personnel and the public while enabling vital training that contributes to troop readiness and national security.

The Marine Corps will also temporarily close the area from Aug. 13-27, 2026. Temporary closure periods include time to inspect the land for safety before reopening to the public.

The adjacent Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Area remains open to the public during temporary closures of the Shared Use Area. When recreating in the Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area it is crucial to understand Combat Center and Share Use Area boundaries. A map illustrating these boundaries is available on our webpage at www.29palms.marines.mil/johnsonvalley/.

Recreationists are also encouraged to explore other nearby off-roading areas, including Stoddard Valley OHV Area and Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recreation Area.

For the most current schedules and information, or to sign up for closure updates via email or text message, the public is encouraged to visit: www.29palms.marines.mil/johnsonvalley/.
