PUBLIC SAFETY REMINDER: UPCOMING CLOSURES FOR JOHNSON VALLEY SHARED USE AREA
12 Jan 2026

As a reminder to the public, the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area will be temporarily closed to the public from Feb. 12-26, 2026, and again from Aug. 13-27, 2026, to facilitate critical Marine Corps service-level training. These closures are essential to ensure the safety of both military personnel and the public while enabling vital training that contributes to troop readiness and national security.

The adjacent Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Area remains open to the public during temporary closures of the Shared Use Area. If recreating in the Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area during a Shared Use Area closure, it is crucial to understand Combat Center and Shared Use Area boundaries. A map illustrating these boundaries is available on our webpage at: www.29palms.marines.mil/johnsonvalley/.

Recreationists are also encouraged to explore other nearby off-roading areas, including Stoddard Valley OHV Area and Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recreation Area.

For the most current information or to sign up for closure alerts, please visit the Johnson Valley page on our website.
