JOHNSON VALLEY SHARED USE AREA BEGINS CLOSURE FOR MARINE TRAINING; 2027 DATES ANNOUNCED

As of today, February 12, 2026, the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area is temporarily closed to the public to facilitate critical, service-level Marine Corps training. This temporary closure will remain in effect through February 26, 2026. This training is essential for maintaining combat readiness and capabilities vital to national security.

To support the public’s long-range planning, the Marine Corps also announces the official Shared Use Area closure dates for 2027. All upcoming closure periods are listed below:

  • August 13 – 27, 2026
  • February 12 – 24, 2027
  • August 13 – 26, 2027

The adjacent Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Area remains open to the public during temporary closures of the Shared Use Area. If recreating in the Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area during a Shared Use Area closure, it is crucial to understand Combat Center and Shared Use Area boundaries.
