Colonel M. J. Posey is a native of Porterville, California and graduated from the University of San Diego in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts/Education. Following her commissioning, she completed The Basic School in 1999 and Combat Engineer Officer Course in 2000.
Colonel Posey’s operational assignments include: 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group, as Alpha Company Bridge Platoon Commander, and subsequently as Alpha Company Operations & Motor Transport/Heavy Equipment Platoon Commander (2000-2002). Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Service Support Group 11, deploying as the Assistant Operations/Training Officer in support of the composited 11th MEU (2002-2003). Combat Service Support Group 19, deploying in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM as the Assistant Operations/Training Officer and Operations Officer (2003). 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group, as the Headquarters and Service Company Commander (2003-2004). Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, as the Engineer Company Commander (2008-2009). I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) Headquarters Group, serving as the I MEF Engineer Officer in Charge (2009-2010). Marine Forces Central Command-Forward, deploying to Bahrain as the I MEF Engineer OIC (2010-2011). 1st Marine Logistics Group, as the Command Inspector General (2016-2017). United States Forces Korea, serving as Chief of U.S. Plans prior to being hand selected to serve as Chief, Commander’s Initiative Group, supporting the Commander, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and United States Forces Korea (2021-2023).
Colonel Posey’s supporting establishment assignments include: Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California, as Combat Engineer Officer and basic maneuver live-fire observer/controller (2005-2008). Training and Education Command (TECOM), Marine Air Ground Task Force Training and Education Division, as Branch Head for Common Skills Training (2013-2014). Marine Corps Force Innovation Office, Headquarters Marine Corps, as Deputy Plans Officer and Plans Officer (2014-2016). 4th Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, as Battalion Commander (2017-2019). Headquarters Marine Corps, as Senior Aide to the Commandant (2020-2021) and TECOM, as the G-3 (2023-2024) prior to assuming her most recent assignment as TECOM Chief of Staff (2024-2025).
Colonel Posey is a graduate of the Marine Corps’ Expeditionary Warfare School (2005), Marine Corps Command and Staff College (2012), the School of Advanced Warfighting (2013), and Marine Corps War College (2020). Her additional military education includes: Martial Arts Instructor Course, Senior Instructor Course, Curriculum Developer Course, Joint Engineer Officer Course, Route Clearance Course, Information Operations Course, Command Inspector General Course, and Senior Paralegal Course. She holds the following advanced degrees: Master of Advanced Warfighting, Master of Military Studies, and Master of Strategic Studies.
