Master Gunnery Sergeant Michael Wissmeyer was born in Laichingen, Deutchland, emigrated to the United States in 1987 and enlisted in the Marine Corps upon completing High School in DeRidder Louisiana. He graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego in September 1999.
In December 1999 he reported to Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, CA for Infantry Training and received the 0311 MOS. Upon completion of ITB School he received orders in January 2000 to 2d Battalion, 3rd Marines where he was assigned as an Automatic Rifleman. While assigned with 2d Battalion, 3rd Marines he completed two Unit Deployment Programs (UDP) and one deployment with Joint Task Force 510 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Philippines.
In May 2003, he reported to 2d Intelligence Battalion, Camp Lejuene North Carolina, where he served as a team leader and section leader for the Ground Sensor Platoon. During this time he deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom II, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit where he conducted the Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations in Beirut, Lebanon.
In February 2007, he reported to 3rd Marine Regiment Kaneohe Bay Hawaii. While there he served as the Regimental Combat Marksmanship Coach and instructor.
In August 2007, he was assigned to Regimental Schools as an instructor at Infantry Squad Leader Course, Kaneohe Bay Hawaii, which became School oflnfantry West, Detachment Hawaii. In January 2008, he attended Marine Combat Instructor Course, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, California. From January 2008 to June 2011, he served as instructor, chief instructor and course Staff
Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Infantry Squad Leader Course.
In June 2011, he reported to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 6th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejuene, North Carolina, where he served as a Platoon Sergeant, Weapons Platoon Sergeant, Company Gunnery Sergeant, Battalion Logistics Chief, and Platoon Commander. During this time, he deployed to Afghanistan from December 2011 to June 2012 and Okinawa Japan from August 2013 to May 2014.
In June 2014, he reported to Training and Education Command, Range Training Area Management Division (RTAM), Quantico. While there he served as the Range Safety Inspector and Instructor for Marine Corps Ranges and United States Army Ranges. During his time with RTAM, he assisted two services with the certification and validation of ranges, and instructed the Inter-Service Range Safety Course, Range Managers Toolkit, and Weapon Danger Zone courses.
In June 2018, he reported to G3 Operations Marine Forces Pacific, Camp Smith Hawaii. While there he served as the Operations Chief for the Command Operations Center.
In August 2021, he reported 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan and served as the battalion operations chief. During his time with 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, he attended Advanced Maneuver Warfare Course and received the MOS of0577 Operations and Tactics Instructor. In April of 2023, he was promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant.
In June 2023, Master Gunnery Sergeant Wissmeyer reported to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 7th Marine Regiment and served as the Battalion Operations Chief.
In January 2025, Master Gunnery Sergeant Wissmeyer reported to Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group, Marine Corps Air Ground Task Force, Training Command and currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Advisor.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (Gold star in lieu of second award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Three gold stars in lieu of fourth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Three gold stars in lieu of fourth award), Humanitarian Service Medal, Korean Defense Medal, two Combat Action Ribbons and various other service and campaign awards.
