'Lava Dogs' prepare for 'every clime and place'

Gusts of up to 30 mph blew through the rolling hills and valleys of the Sierra Mountains as 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment traversed treacherous terrain to gain a superior position over the enemy. Marines traveled over creeks, up steep inclines and through snow banks at elevations of up to 10,000 feet. The environment tested their resolve and tactics as they hunted opposition forces.

Mountain warfare instructors hone their skills

A team of Marines dismount from a CH-47 Chinook helicopter into a landing zone that sits at approximately 11,000 feet above sea level. The team was faced with high gusts of wind, rocky terrain, and the strain higher altitudes can have on the body as they progressed down the mountainside. The group overcame the natural obstacles and pushed through to each checkpoint. Though trekking two kilometers to their first checkpoint, the team still had a long day ahead of them.

He walks through the curtain to cheers from a crowd surrounding the octagon arena where he will fight to defend his title. His heart begins to race, slowly picking up speed as he steps into the cage and sees his opponent face-to face.
