MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS -- The Combat Center Library hosted its annual Science Night aboard the Combat Center, Jan. 14, 2016.
Marine Corps Community Services has hosted the Science Night aboard the Combat Center annually for approximately five years. The educational event was open to Combat Center patrons of all ages and provided the 110 participants with an opportunity to learn more about science with hands-on activities.
According to Benjamin Goulet, library technician, Combat Center Library, there’s a national initiative in the Marine Corps to incorporate science, technology, engineering and math-related projects into base libraries.
The Combat Center Library recently received a grant to purchase family-oriented science activities for children, which they used for the first time during their event. Goulet says events like this reinforce what children are learning in school and provide a nice opportunity for families to come together, connect and meet one another.
