Sgt. Maj. William Johnson Jr., outgoing and retiring Combat Center sergeant major, hands the sword of office to Brig. Gen. Charles M. Gurganus, during the Combat Center’s sergeant major post and relief ceremony at Lance Cpl. Torrey L. Gray Field July 9, 2008. Johnson’s successor was Sgt. Maj. Susan M. Bellis, a Boston native who arrived to the Combat Center from Marine Wing Support Group 27 out of Cherry Point, N.C.
