U.S Marine Staff Sgt. Alex A. Magedaleno, a communications chief with Embedded Trainer Team 5-3, climbs up a hill to scout for possible enemy assault during a convoy assault training scenario in Hawthorne, Nev., Feb. 2, 2008. U.S. Marines and sailors with Embedded Trainer Teams, all serving with 3rd Marine Division, executed a training lane aboard U.S. Army training grounds surrounding Hawthorn Army Depot that involved mass casualty evacuation, immediate action to improvised explosive devices and ambush counterattacks. The training lane is part of a pre-deployment package dubbed Mountain Viper. ETT 5-3 are preparing for an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan where they?ll be tasked with mentoring, monitoring and advising Afghan army units to become a self-capable military force.
