Petty Officer 3rd Class James M. Swink, a native of Yucca Valley Calif., gave his life Aug. 27 while serving with 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, in Helmand province, Afghanistan. His memorial service was held at the Yucca Valley High School gymnasium Sept. 21 where his family and friends gathered to pay their repects.
