MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. -- Substance Abuse Prevention Program began Red Ribbon Week with their second annual five kilometer race at the Desert Winds Golf Course, Oct. 23, 2015. The run was one of several ways SAPP raises drug abuse awareness to the Combat Center.
Red Ribbon Week is held on the last full week of October every year. The tradition of Red Ribbon Week began in the 1980s after drug cartels abducted and killed Enrique Camarena, a former Marine who became a drug enforcement agent stationed in Mexico. Red Ribbon Week is held to raise awareness to drug abuse and make our communities clean and drug free places to live.
