Residents of Palm Springs as well as friends and family members of Joseph Beaver applaud during his Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony at the Tolerance Education Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., Feb. 24. Upon completion of his service, Beaver dedicated his life to the civil rights battle, founding the Black Historical and Cultural Society of the Coachella Valley.
