MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER, Calif. -- The Marine Corps has released new updated temporary closure dates for the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area in 2026. The area is
periodically closed to the public to conduct critical military training exercises.
• Feb. 13-24, 2025
• Aug. 14–25, 2025
• Feb. 12-26, 2026
• Aug. 13-27, 2026
These dates include the time for post-training inspections to ensure the area is safe to return to public use prior to reopening. The adjacent Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area remains open to the public for recreation during closures of the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area.
Recreationists are also encouraged to explore other nearby off -roading areas including Stoddard Valley OHV Area and Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recreation Area.
Live-fire training is conducted at the Combat Center year-round; recreationists are advised to be safe when visiting Johnson Valley and observe base boundaries to avoid trespassing.
