Sgt. Maj. Robert L. Jacobs

Sergeant Major Jacobs joined the Marine Corps on 28 May 1996 and reported to MCRD Parris Island for recruit training with Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. Upon completion of basic training, he reported to Camp Geiger, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry (East). He graduated from SOI with the primary MOS of 0331 (Machine Gunner). In October of 1996, Sergeant Major Jacobs reported to 3rd Battalion 8th Marine Regiment, India Company for service as a Machine Gunner in Weapons Platoon. While with India Company he conducted a UDP to Camp Schwab Okinawa, Japan in June 1997 and deployed with the 24th MEU in March of 1999. Sergeant Major Jacobs was promoted to Corporal on April 1998 and Sergeant on January 2000 and held the billets of Team Leader and Squad Leader. In May of 2000, Sergeant Major Jacobs reported to Marine Security Guard Battalion Quantico, Virginia for duties as a Watch Stander. Upon graduation he was sent to his first post of American Embassy Beijing, China in September of 2000. On December of 2001 he would be selected to assist in standing up operations for Marine Security Guard Detachment Vilnius, Lithuania where he would later serve as the Assistant Detachment Commander. Sergeant Major Jacobs would be promoted to Staff Sergeant in December 2003. In April of 2004, Sergeant Major Jacobs reported to 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines and was placed in Weapons Company as a Section Leader for the 81mm Mortars Platoon. While with 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines he would conduct two deployments to Iraq. The first being to Al Qaim in September 2004 where he would serve as Section Leader for the Mobile Assault Platoon and the second to Habbaniyah in March 2006 where he performed the duties as Platoon Sergeant for the Combined Anti-Armor Team. In March 2007, Sergeant Major Jacobs reported to MCRD Parris Island for duties as a Drill Instructor. Upon graduation of school he would be assigned to Golf Company where he completed two training cycles before moving to Hotel Company for duties as a Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor. Sergeant Major Jacobs would be promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in January 2008. Upon completion of three cycles with Hotel Company he would be assigned to Drill Instructor School where he successfully trained five classes. In April of 2010, Sergeant Major Jacobs reported to 8th Marine Regiment, Headquarters Company for duties as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. In January 2010 he would deploy to Delaram, Afghanistan with Regimental Combat Team 8. Upon arrival to Delaram he would be assigned to the Police Advisor Team to serve as Team Chief. He returned to CONUS in January 2012 where he resumed duties as Company Gunnery Sergeant. Sergeant Major Jacobs would be promoted to First Sergeant in March of 2012 and receive orders to Chemical Biological Incident Response Force in April 2012. Sergeant Major Jacobs served as the Company First Sergeant for React Company, Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) at Indian Head, Maryland until July 2013 at which point Sergeant Major Jacobs was assigned to Security Force Regiment, as the Company First Sergeant for Training Company located in Chesapeake, Virginia until June 2015. Upon completion of his tour with Security Forces, Sergeant Major Jacobs would be assigned to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion, Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company and Bravo Company. Sergeant Major Jacobs would be promoted to his present rank on 1 May 2018. Sergeant Major Jacobs was then posted to School of Infantry (West), H&S Battalion as the Battalion Sergeant Major until 12 June 2020 where he would assume the duties as Battalion Sergeant Major for 3D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion located in Twentynine Palms, California July 2020. Sergeant Major Jacobs would then take out 2d Battalion, 7th Marines for UDP-W 22.1 from October 2021 to May 2022 as the Battalion Sergeant Major . Upon completion of the UDP, Sergeant Major Jacobs would resume his duties with 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. Sergeant Major Jacobs personal awards consist of: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of 6th award with combat distinguishing device and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of 4th award with combat distinguishing device.
